Author Myra Ross is a Health Improvement Specialist with the Health Improvement Team, in Public Health NHSH. Myra is also a retired Police Officer with a special interest in domestic abuse and child protection. She has spent many years working with young people with care experience, within the Care System and in education.
Myra developed the Spider in the Glass model and uses this in her training sessions. She was previously the training officer for the Highland Violence Against Women Partnership where she was responsible for writing the Imagine poem as part of the national 16 Days of Activism campaign against gender-based violence. Myra uses poetry and storytelling to create understanding and enhance the learning on gender-based violence and the abuse of power.
About the session
This session follows on from the previous Introduction To The Spider In The Glass session. It is suitable for professionals working with those experiencing domestic abuse. Particularly those working in public protection and services who routinely assess risk.
Aim of Session
The session revisits the Spider In The Glass model, with a focus on high-risk cases of domestic abuse, risk assessment, MARAC and The Homicide Timeline. Participants should leave with an understanding of when it becomes a MARAC Case.
