Introduction to safeguarding

In an exciting partnership, SCVO and Amplify Training are pleased to offer an introductory training course on safeguarding for the voluntary sector.

Overall course aim

The aim of this three-hour course is to build participants’ knowledge of safeguarding for the Scottish voluntary sector. You will be able to learn more about the regulatory requirements for safeguarding and good practice in proactively preventing harm, building a positive safeguarding culture and responding well to concerns.

Course objectives

This online course will help you understand key safeguarding issues within the sector. Practical and applied in nature, we will use a range of interactive techniques to build your confidence to make a positive change for everyone engaged in your work.

Participants will leave the session:

  • with an understanding and being able to define safeguarding in relation to the voluntary sector

  • with knowledge of key regulatory requirements and where to learn more

  • having considered how to build a positive safeguarding culture in your organisation; including the role of policies and procedures

  • having reflected on responding to harm and offering proportionate responses

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is geared toward those working or leading voluntary organisations and charities with responsibility for safeguarding. You may be a safeguarding lead, senior manager or trustee.

The course is designed specifically for voluntary sector organisations working with the public at large. Those with intentional, direct work with children (eg those in early years, children’s centres or youth work) or adults at risk (eg adult social care or clinical settings) may require additional training.

This course is a useful overview for staff and volunteers in international development charities but is not suited for staff or volunteers working directly in humanitarian or development settings outside the UK.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements.
