This training will focus on developing an understanding of the extent and nature of sexual violence including an exploration of myths and attitudes towards sexual violence in society. Participants will develop an understanding of trauma responses, how they can present and how to best respond to disclosures including an understanding of how relevant services such as Rape Crisis can support survivor.
Who is this learning for?
This training is aimed at people working in East Lothian or Midlothian, who would like to feel more confident in their responses to survivors who disclose sexual violence.
Are there any pre-requisites for attending this course?
Applicants should be familiar with the Violence Against Women and Girls page of the EMPPC website. Applicants should also familiarise themselves with Equally Safe: Scotland’s Strategy for Preventing and Eradicating Violence Against Women and Girls.
What are the learning outcomes?
Participants will be able to:
Understand the impact of sexual violence and identify trauma responses in survivors
Respond to survivors' disclosures appropriately, empathetically and confidently
Identify risk factors relating to vulnerable adults and children; and
Inform survivors of the service available to them and make a referral
How will the training be delivered?
This training will be delivered by Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre.
