COSS: Introduction to Asset Transfer Process

This training event is for any community groups interested in exploring what is involved in taking on a community asset (halls, community centres, growing spaces etc) through community asset transfer, and to help you ask the question “will this be a viable community asset?” 

What will be covered

  • A brief outline of the Community Empowerment Act and the new rights that community groups have to request to lease, own or manage publicly owned assets, and what your group structure needs to look like

  • The key questions you need to ask yourselves before taking on an asset  – what is the need, how do we know, do we need an asset to deliver, who is going to do it and where is the money coming from? Including examples from across Scotland of successful community projects.

  • What are the steps you need to take to take on an asset - what does the  asset transfer journey looks like

  • How to get started and where to get help and support, including specific grant funds.
