Inter-agency Adult Support and Protection Roles and Responsibilities Training (Level 3)

This Level 3 course is for multi-agency operational staff and managers working within East Lothian and Midlothian who are in regular contact or carry out direct work with vulnerable adults and who have a requirement to learn more about Adult Support and Protection for their role.

Are there any pre-requisites for attending this course?

Applicants must have previously completed an introductory course to Adult Support and Protection or familiarised themselves with the EMPPC information on EMPPC website page on Adult Support and Protection.

In advance of attending the course, you should ensure you are familiar with EMPPC Multi-Agency Adult Support and Protection Procedures and as well as your employer’s Adult Protection procedures.

Who is Level 3 training targeted at?

Level 3 training is more in-depth training for the specific workforce who have a specific front-facing role in working with children and adults. This also applies to supervisors. Level two training will include roles, responsibilities, assessment of risk and harm, processes, and procedures. All staff who, as part of their role, work directly with children or adults or families. People in this workforce group are likely to require a PVG and to:

  • Routinely work closely with children or adults or families, including supporting learning, health, practical or skills development

  • Keep routine records, write reports and/or assessments for multi-agency Protection meetings, participate in Protection support plans

  • Contribute to single agency recording and chronologies

  • Contribute to generic or specific risk assessments.

What are the learning outcomes?

  • To understand the national and local policy and legislative context for Adult Protection

  • To describe the roles of agencies involved in Adult Protection

  • To become familiar with the key processes and procedures (including the duty to inquire, inter-agency referral discussions and case conferences)

  • To explain concepts of risk assessment and risk management in an Adult Protection context.

How will the training be delivered?

The training will be delivered on a multi-agency basis by professionals from Police, Health, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Adult Social Work and the Adult Support and Protection Lead Officer
