Scotland has a high rate of fire deaths. People with vulnerabilities, such as those with alcohol problems and other issues, are at higher risk of causing fires through careless disposal of cigarettes and cooking. They may require support to protect themselves from fire risk.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) can offer Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSV), free of charge, to help reduce fire risk. This one-hour briefing will introduce how the SFRS can reduce the risk of harm from fire and new legal requirements on fire safety.
Who is this learning for?
This session is open to all agencies that work with adults vulnerable to risk of harm. The briefing will explain who is at risk of harm from fire and how the SFRS can help you to reduce that risk and keep adults vulnerable to harm safer. It will explain why it is vital to request a Home Fire Safety Visit. It will also say why it is vital to refer concerns about fire harm for consideration under Adult Protection legislation and how this can help.
How will the briefing be delivered?
The briefing will be delivered by Brian Aitchison of the SFRS and Alan Laughland, Lead Officer for Adult Support and Protection East Lothian and Midlothian on MS Teams
