Volunteer Organisers Network: Encouraging and enabling intergenerational volunteering

Learn about how intergenerational learning and exchange can play a key role in bringing diverse communities together.

There are many benefits of intergenerational learning and exchange. Join us to learn more about projects focused around this ambition at the Science and Industry Museum, with Volunteer Manager Katie Powell. Part of the talk will also explore how intergenerational volunteering and learning can help address the sector-wide challenge of heritage skills loss, bringing an added focus to this important issue.

Katie has been at the Science and Industry Museum for 8 years, having started her career around 20 years ago as a volunteer at Manchester Museum. Her professional background centres on learning within museum environments, alongside experience managing community-driven fundraising events as a Fundraising and Events Manager. A self-confessed history enthusiast, Katie has an academic background in archaeology, including funerary archaeology, and studied at both the University of Liverpool and the University of Sheffield.

After the 20-30 minute presentation, there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
