SCVO: Funding fundamentals - growing support through giving and events

This online short course is designed for organisations that want to strengthen their understanding of Individual Giving and Event Fundraising and learn how these approaches can support sustainable income generation.

The session will be participatory, with opportunities for discussion and reflection. You are encouraged to keep your camera on and take part in group activities throughout.

Overall course aim

Participants will gain an introduction to key aspects of:

  • Individual Giving – including donations, legacies, sponsorships through events, Gift Aid and much more

  • Event Fundraising – understanding how to plan, resource and run events that provide a worthwhile return on investment

  • Balancing effort and impact – ensuring fundraising approaches are realistic, strategic and aligned to their organisation’s capacity

Course objectives

By the end of this online course, participants will have:

  • A clearer understanding of how Individual Giving works, and how it can support fundraising efforts

  • Increased awareness of how to plan and evaluate fundraising events, ensuring the time and resources involved are balanced with the expected return

  • Practical ideas for strengthening or developing Individual Giving and event‑based fundraising within their organisation

  • More confidence in choosing the right fundraising approaches for their needs and capacity

This course is part of our Funding fundamentals series, which can be studied independently or in conjunction with each other.

In addition to this series there is the Introduction to fundraising course, which is designed as a stand-alone course.

This short course is designed for:

  • Small to medium‑sized organisations looking to strengthen their fundraising

  • Staff, volunteers or board members who want to understand Individual Giving and event‑based fundraising

  • Anyone new to fundraising who wants practical guidance on choosing the right approaches for their organisation

Cost

£85 (member rate £60). If you belong to an organisation in SCVO membership, you will save £25 when booking this course.
