EMPPO Briefing: Domestic Abuse and the Importance of the Safe and Together Model

In this briefing you will learn about:

  • The complexity of the definition of neglect – and what is meant by ‘persistent’ failure to meet a child’s needs, and ‘cumulative neglect’

  • Neglect within the contexts of child development and different perspectives of agencies working with children and families

  • Thresholds for intervention, assessment and information sharing, and

  • The importance of understanding the child’s lived experience.

Who is this learning for?

This session is open to all agencies that support or work with children and families in East Lothian or Midlothian.

How will the briefing be delivered?

The briefing will be delivered by Carla Thomas from Child and Family Training on MS Teams. Carla is an expert and experienced trainer in childhood neglect, with 40 years’ experience in social work in England. In this two-hour briefing, she will share her expertise, drawn from research, practice and learning reviews.
