Advocacy should be offered to adults who need support in communicating their views to professionals, by virtue of age, physical or learning disability, drug or alcohol use, mental health issues.
Advocacy is an essential feature of Adult Support and Protection work, and this one hour briefing will enable staff working with vulnerable adults to:
Be aware of the requirements to offer a referral to advocacy for vulnerable adults;
Understand and hear from the services that local advocacy providers can provide (CAPS Advocacy; EARS Advocacy and Partners in Advocacy); and
Appreciate the benefit that advocacy services can bring to those who require advocacy.
Alan Laughland, Adult Support and Protection Lead Officer, will speak about how Advocacy is essential to support adults in Adult Protection.

This session is open to all staff and volunteers who work with, or support vulnerable adults in East Lothian and Midlothian.
