An Insight into Mental Health

Change Mental Health 

Thursday 11th January 9 am - 1 pm online via Zoom 
This online course will provide anyone with a greater understanding of mental health and mental illness, the stigma surrounding mental illness and how to support yourself and others with their mental well-being. Through facilitator-led knowledge, discussions and breakaway tasks, participants will cover the following;

  • Your Wellbeing

  • A guide to understanding wellbeing.

  • Information on how to care for your wellbeing.

  • Stress as a bodily response.

  • Stress management – signs and techniques

Child Protection - Level 1

Saturday 13th January, 9.30 - 12.30 pm at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre, Musselburgh.

This face to face training session is  aimed at staff and volunteers who work with children and young people.The course will raise awareness and improve knowledge on current policies and procedures in relation to child protection. Thursday 18th January 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre
This introductory course is for anyone aged 16 +, works or lives in East Lothian with an interest in helping people with mental health.
At the end of this course the delegates should be able to spot common mental health symptoms in others (and themselves), what to do until professional help is available, know about the recovery from mental ill health, know about the links between alcohol and drug abuse and mental health and to understand the importance of good listening skills. Area Partnership Membership Training

Monday 29th January - 7.00 pm - 9.00 pm at Regent Room, The Brunton Hall, Musselburgh 

This face-to-face training session is aimed at new Area Partnership Members and will cover the role of Area Partnerships, area plans, roles within Area Partnerships, Area Partnership Frameworks and Standing Orders.

By the end of the session participants will have:

• Increased awareness of the role of Area Partnerships.
• Understanding of their role as an Area Partnership Member.
• Enhanced knowledge of the function of an area plan.
• Improved understanding of the structures and conduct of Area Partnerships.

Emergency First Aid - £25 face to face at Port Seton Centre

St Andrew's First Aid

Saturday 10th February - 09.15 am - 1.15 pm at Port Seton Centre 
This introductory course is designed for anyone who is keen to have basic first aid knowledge and how to look after a casualty whilst awaiting an ambulance.

This is an emergency first aid course and will include:

  • managing an incident

  • priorities of first aid

  • CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation)

  • disorders of circulation and the airways

  • control of bleeding, burns and scalds

Neurodiversity Awareness Training

Wednesday 21st February 10.30 am - 12.30 pm at Musselburgh East Learning Centre
This  face to face 2 hour awareness raising course is aimed at parents, carers and professionals working with Neurodiverse children and young people.
The session will be run by Sarah Irvine or Lynne Melville from Barnardos Caern community team that aims to improve the knowledge, confidence and resilience. We will look at the world through a neurodivergent perspective looking at ways to support families and young people and the challenges they face day today. 

By the end of the session participants will have:

  • an improved knowledge of Neurodiversity 

  • improved confidence in supporting people who are neurodiverse

  • more strategies to support children and young people.

Baby and Child First Aid - £30 face to face at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre

Saturday 24th February - 09.00 am - 5.00 pm  
This course is for anyone who wishes to gain knowledge and experience of First Aid for babies and children.

Course content includes:-
·       Accidents in the home/nursery/school 
·       Recovery position     
·       CPR and treatment for shock
·       Disorders of breathing  
·       Hypothermia   
·       Disorders of consciousness
·       Wounds and bleeding 
·       Injuries to bones and soft tissue
·       Burns and scalds 
·       Poisons    
·       Miscellaneous conditions

The Promise - Awareness Raising

Under Pressure

Tuesday 5th March, 2 pm - 4 pm, at Musselburgh Community Learning Centre

This course is aimed at youth workers, residential care staff, community sports, art staff and other professionals working with young people, kinship carers.

The Under Pressure training program aims to support professionals working with young people to open discussions about some of the challenges and pressures they may be facing. Those challenges include risks of grooming and sexual exploitation, negotiating online safety, engaging in healthy consent-based relationships and dealing with pressures to conform to idealised models of ‘how to be’ men and women.

Children's Right to Play

Children’s Right to Play is a two- hour session, designed for people who work with children. The workshop is designed to deepen understanding of children’s right to play in Scotland, based on the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will have:
• Increased understanding of children’s right to play
• Be able to nurture commitment to article 31 (the right to play)
• Be able to think and look to implement practical outcomes in practice.

Introduction to Fundraising

This face to face introductory course is aimed at people who are looking to gain funding for projects, activities, staff and core costs.
A fundraising masterclass on everything from project planning, to sourcing funding and writing applications. The course will cover the different type of funding streams, terminology for funding applications i.e. outcomes, outputs, impact etc. and how to structure applications and apportion costs of projects (including core costs). It will look at using planning triangles and theory of change to develop robust funding applications.

Elementary Food Hygiene - £10 

Online course completed at anytime 

This Level 2 course is for anyone who has to prepare, cook or serve food either as a member of staff or volunteer. The course will cover various topics including an introduction to food hygiene, personal hygiene and working habits of the food handler etc.  This course is online and taken at the participants own pace.
